Pour one out

Well, as you all know, it's official. KAC, everyone's favorite, favorite socialite has officially moved on to that big socialite pie in the sky...not sure if that pie involves wonkette or gawker, but I am full of remorse.
Kelly was one of the main reasons I got into the blog scene. She was pithy and sharp with her blend of social commentary with social goings on. I have only partied with her once, but she was as one would expect...cool as shit with her adorable partner in crime Luke.
Lest I kiss too much more ass, I will just say "Thanks, Kelly, you have inspired a lot with your hip blog." I thank you as another bored girl at work looking for an extra moment of escapism. Packaging the fun of socialites in a form that can be enjoyed by the everyman/woman is significant. You and your friends were as close to a DC Gatsby as we will ever come.
Cheers to you and your friends, best of luck and thanks for all that you did and will do.

Of course, Gatsby was a fraud who had a magnificent library of uncut books and his fortune most likely was tied up in illegal activities, including the fixing of the 1919 World Series.

The world Gatsby was trying to break into so he could get to Daisy was racist and corrupt, a fact noted by the disgusted Nick, who managed to chronicle its emptiness.

Sorry. Too much literature in my past and present...

In my younger and more vulnerable years KAC gave me some advice that I've been turning over in my mind ever since.
'Whenever you feel like criticizing anyone,' she told me, 'just remember ... to go out, kick it up, and have fun.'

And as I sat there brooding on the old, unknown world, I thought of KAC's wonder when she first picked out the green light at the end of Luke's dock. She had come a long way in this bloggoshere. She did not know that it was already behind her, somewhere back in that vast obscurity beyond DuPont Circle, where the dark fields of the internet rolled on under the night.

KAC believed in the green light, the orgastic Socialite Website that year by year recedes before us.

So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into her Blogger past.

V, last night I was hoping we would consumate our mutual grief with some joint therapy, but alas I had to find solace alone...was it due in any part to me losing my car? ;)

Your charms were great, and I did appreciate the car ride and peak into CPMC, but alas there was already someone waiting in my bed...maybe next time ;)

Kelly Ann Collins' take on Washington reminds me of nothing so much as a college hangover.

Remember that sinking feeling you'd get when a couple of girls from one of those middling popularity sororities would sit down behind where you're trying to read? The "ahh... shit" switch that would flip in the back of your head?

Those chicks would go on and ON and ON!! about keg parties and quarters games and every-fucking-pedestrian-activity-under-the-sun with the fraternity guys that mixed at their level. The guys all called each other by clubby or obscure nicknames, socially secure for the first time in their lives. They fed their newly-discovered inner ladies men at pre-arranged mixers, as though groups of women were drawn to their elemental coolness, as opposed to the cheap beer. The girls were sufficiently lubricated by alcohol to wear clothing that exposed their "freshman fifteen" and sufficiently deluded as to mistake all that horny groping for male adoration in thrall to their all-too-attainable feminine allure. And they'd talk and TALK and TALK!! about their social beehives so damn incessantly. The alternative of shutting up from time to time might confront them with the disquieting reality that the social elite they imitated with debased desperation was not, in fact, similarly engaged in blowharding its own horn.

Great. Now I need an Advil.
